Biography

A Certified Peer Support Specialist who works at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Internal Medicine and Surgery Trauma. He works with mental health and substance use patients that come into the hospital and tries to connect them to resources that help better their life as well as help stabilize it. He also works with them on finding their path to recovery or at least work on harm reduction techniques to keep them safer. Alex graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BA in History. He is a veteran of the United States Navy and was medically discharged in 2011. Upon discharge he dealt with mental health issues and opioid and alcohol related substance use disorder issues and has since found recovery for over six years and dedicated his life to helping others find recovery. He is also in the process of becoming a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor. He is a member of the Forsyth County Opiate Task Force and advocates for mental health and substance use disorder patients in health care systems. Alex helped bring a NA H&I meeting to Wake Forest Baptist and Co-presented at the Wake Forest School of Medicine Addiction Interest Group. He also co-presented at an Internal Medicine Mortality and Morbidity meeting as well as at the NAMI conference in Greensboro, NC.
