Biography

Cheryl is a Clinical Social Work Supervisor at Cherry Hospital in the Adult Acute Admissions Units serving individuals experiencing severe mental illness, substance use and trauma. In her career of over 30 years she has worked with children, adolescents and adults in multiple settings including hospitals, hospice, ADATCs, mental health centers and private practice. She was the mental health provider to a Federal Disaster Team for the National Disaster Medical Assistance Team response for over 15 years. She is trained as an EMDR clinician and has focused on the identification of trauma and treatment interventions in order to address trauma as an underlying source of mental health and substance use disorders.

Within the last 10 years, she has focused on incorporation of the body’s response to trauma and became a certified yoga instructor specializing in using breath and movement to change the brain’s responses to stress, chronic pain, mental and physical health concerns. She is trained in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and uses both yoga and mindfulness/meditation as intervention for chronic pain, depression, anxiety, substance use disorders and trauma responses.
