Cheryl has enjoyed sharing her love of music with many individuals As a music therapist. She earned a Bachelor’s of Music from East Carolina University, and Master’s of Music in Music Therapy from Michigan State University and has performed at the Brevard Music Center in the mountains of NC. Cheryl and her husband opened the Music Academy of Eastern Carolina, a nonprofit community music school in Greenville, NC. As an oboist, she enjoys performing with orchestras, bands, churches and theatre orchestras in North Carolina, and is a member of the chamber music ensemble, Harmonious Camaraderie. She is excited to have been selected to perform with the World Adult Wind Orchestra Project in Schladming, Austria for July 2019 & 2020. She has experience as a clinical music therapist in psychiatric hospitals, addiction treatment centers, pain management, developmental disabilities and wellness for individuals of all ages. As a member of the Performing Arts Medical Association, she specializes in Musicians Health, working with musicians, amateur and professional, to maximize their performance skills.
Currently, she is a member of the Ethics Board for the American Music Therapy Association and Co-Chair for the NC Chapter for the State Recognition of Music Therapy. She has served the field of music therapy as a representative for SER-AMTA with the AMTA Assemble of Delegates. She has co-authored publications for AMTA Professional Advocacy Committee and is an active clinician with presenting continuing education sessions at state, regional and national conferences for music therapy related topics.
