Thursday Evening | July 23rd | 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Presenter: Tianna Gregory, LCSW, LCAS
Description: This plenary session will examine the growing need for specialized treatment for pregnant and parenting women with substance use disorders (SUD) in North Carolina. Participants will explore key barriers to care, including stigma, fear of child welfare involvement, and limited access to family-centered services and the resulting impact on maternal health and family stability. The session will then highlight Volunteers of America’s Family Focused Recovery (FFR) model, an innovative residential treatment approach that allows mothers to remain with their children while receiving comprehensive, trauma-informed care. By integrating substance use treatment, maternal health support, parenting services, and child wellness, this model improves engagement and long-term recovery outcomes. Attendees will gain insight into both the scope of the problem and a proven, family-centered solution that can be adapted across systems of care.
