Evening A. AA/NA/Al-Anon Educational and Informational Session

Description: This session will focus on “Understanding Anonymity and Misconceptions”. How does one maintain their own recovery while working in the recovery field and problems they may have encountered? Attendees in recovery share information and learn from each other’s experiences.  Resources and information about AA/NA and Al-Anon for attendees to use for their clients/patients will be provided.  A primary purpose of the session is to share personal experiences as well as up to date and useful information to help those in recovery.

Evening B. A Half Century of Experience Panel

Evening D. Healing Mothers, Healing Families: A Family Focused SUD Treatment Model

Thursday Evening | July 23rd | 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Description: This plenary session will examine the growing need for specialized treatment for pregnant and parenting women with substance use disorders (SUD) in North Carolina. Participants will explore key barriers to care, including stigma, fear of child welfare involvement, and limited access to family-centered services and the resulting impact on maternal health and family stability. The session will then highlight Volunteers of America’s Family Focused Recovery (FFR) model, an innovative residential treatment approach that allows mothers to remain with their children while receiving comprehensive, trauma-informed care. By integrating substance use treatment, maternal health support, parenting services, and child wellness, this model improves engagement and long-term recovery outcomes. Attendees will gain insight into both the scope of the problem and a proven, family-centered solution that can be adapted across systems of care.

Evening E. It’s Healing with Each Other: Group Counseling for the Substance Use Disorders

Description: This workshop explores the biological and neurological impacts of stress through a discussion of prominent stress theories and personal reflection. Participants will have the opportunity to practice guided breathing exercises and yoga poses to aid in emotional regulation.
