Below, you will find frequently asked questions about the North Carolina Foundation for Alcohol & Drug Studies (NCFADS) and our Schools.

Organization FAQs

Is NCFADS a nonprofit?
Yes! NCFADS has been recognized by the IRS and state of North Carolina as a certified 501(c)3 nonprofit. We have been serving the community since we were chartered in 1978.
***As a certified 501(c)3 nonprofit, all donations to our organization are 100% tax deductible.

What does NCFADS do?
The North Carolina Foundation for Alcohol & Drug Studies provides excellence in addiction education and training. Our main programs include an annual Winter School and an annual Summer School both of which provide up to 30 hours of education. Professionals who require contact hours or continuing education hours to maintain licensure and/or certifications can receive their credits through us.

Who does NCFADS serve?
While our programs are geared more towards professionals who require continuing education, we do not exclude anyone from attending. We get a variety of folks, from faith-based leaders and criminal justice professionals to mental health counselors and substance use prevention staff.

When you attend a typical conference, you will oftentimes only receive about 1-3 hours of information on a given topic. Our Schools’ days are filled with various shorter daytime and evening sessions to give attendees access to a variety of important education (similar to a traditional conference), but we also incorporate three to five concurrent 9-hour “main” sessions that attendees have the option to choose from. How do I register for an NCFADS School?
We currently hold two schools a year: Winter School in mid-February and Summer School in late-July/early-August. Each school’s registration will open about 3 months prior to School dates. So, Winter School registration will open by mid-November and Summer School will open by early-May. How do I register for an NCFADS School?

I would like to attend an NCFADS School, but cannot afford the registration fee. What can I do?
We provide several full-tuition scholarships each year. The scholarship process is competitive, so it is encouraged to put your best foot forward and make a compelling case for need.

What kinds of accrediting boards do you work with?
We work with a variety of accrediting boards/organizations to ensure our attendees are able to get the credits they need to maintain their licensure/certifications. Currently, we work with:

  • National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC)
  • North Carolina Addictions Specialist Professional Practice Board (NCASPPB)
  • Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC)
  • National Association of Social Workers (NASW)

We also offer contact hours for professionals whose boards require contact hours.
